One can only hope Nintendo will at the very least release a compilation of Donkey Kong games for the Switch on DK's 40th anniversary - or for a better birthday surprise, a brand new game featuring the return of King K. Tropical Freeze was given an updated re-release on the Nintendo Switch, but there's yet to be a follow-up - perhaps not surprising, given Retro Studios' current work on Metroid Prime 4. It received a sequel, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which dropped for the underwhelming Wii U on 2014. All it was missing was the incredibly memorable King K.
